The IgG Food Antibodies – 87 Foods (DBS) test is a laboratory assessment performed by Genova Diagnostics that measures IgG antibody responses to 87 commonly consumed foods. Unlike traditional serum testing, this version uses a dried blood spot (DBS) specimen collected with a simple finger stick.

Understanding Your Results
Your Genova Diagnostics report provides a food-by-food view of IgG antibody responses, organized into reporting levels:
- 3+ High
- 2+ Moderate
- 1+ Low
- VL – Very Low
- 0 – None Detected
The report also includes your Total IgE result. A high IgG result does not, by itself, prove a food is causing a symptom, establish a food allergy, or mean the food must be permanently eliminated. Results should be considered alongside dietary exposure, symptoms, health history, and professional guidance.

How to Prepare

- Do not stop prescription medications or medically necessary treatments on your own.
- Do not intentionally consume a food that has caused a serious or suspected allergic reaction for the purpose of testing.
Turnaround Time
Allow approximately 2–3 weeks after the laboratory receives an acceptable specimen. Turnaround times are estimates and may vary due to specimen quality, lab volume, holidays, or shipping delays.

Does this test require a blood draw?
No. A dried blood spot (DBS) specimen is collected with a finger stick at home.
Does this test diagnose food allergies?
No. It is not designed to diagnose IgE-mediated food allergies.
What does a high IgG result mean?
A higher result indicates a higher level of IgG antibodies for that food per the lab’s reporting criteria. It does not confirm a food allergy or require permanent elimination of that food.
Does the panel include IgE testing?

Do I need to fast?
Yes. Genova Diagnostics instructs patients to fast overnight before collection. Always follow the current kit instructions.
