The Canine Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) – Profile 10 by Trace Elements Inc. is a comprehensive mineral and toxic metal assessment for your dog, performed by a federally licensed laboratory. This test measures 15 nutritional elements, 7–8 toxic metals, 7 significant mineral ratios, 9 toxic ratios, and 10 additional elements — providing a detailed picture of your dog’s mineral balance, toxic metal exposure, and metabolic health.

Just like in humans, mineral imbalances and toxic metal accumulation in dogs can contribute to low energy, coat and skin problems, immune weakness, joint issues, and behavioral changes. HTMA gives you the data to address these issues at the root level.*

What the Test Measures

15 Essential Minerals

Calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc, phosphorus, iron, manganese, chromium, selenium, boron, cobalt, molybdenum, and sulfur. These nutrients play significant roles in muscular activity, endocrine function, reproduction, skeletal integrity, and overall development.

7 Toxic Heavy Metals (8 with Antimony)

Uranium, arsenic, beryllium, mercury, cadmium, lead, and aluminum. These metals are well-known for interfering with normal biochemical function and causing numerous imbalances.

7 Significant Mineral Ratios

Ca/P, Na/K, Ca/K, Zn/Cu, Na/Mg, Ca/Mg, Fe/Cu. Disturbed mineral relationships can adversely affect normal biological functions and metabolic activity.

9 Toxic Metal Ratios

Ca/Pb, Fe/Pb, Fe/Hg, Se/Hg, Zn/Cd, An/Hg, S/Hg, S/Cd, S/Pb. Toxic metals can produce antagonistic effects on essential minerals, leading to metabolic disturbances.

10 Additional Elements

Germanium, barium, lithium, nickel, platinum, vanadium, strontium, tin, tungsten, and zirconium.

11 Additional Ratios

Ca/Sr, Cr/V, Cu/Mo, Fe/Co, K/Co, K/Li, Mg/B, S/Cu, Se/Tl, Se/Sn, Zn/Sn.

What’s in the Report?

Your 8-page report from Trace Elements Lab includes a computer-generated individualized evaluation covering metabolic type, endocrine and performance indexes, and a discussion of mineral patterns and their impact on your dog’s chemistry. Any nutritional minerals with moderate or significant deviation from normal are highlighted, and dietary supplement recommendations are provided based on the hair mineral patterns.

  2. Receive your collection kit — mailed by Evenbetternow® via USPS Ground Advantage (USA only) with complete instructions for collecting your dog’s hair sample. (International clients receive full collection instructions via email.)
  3. Send the sample back to Trace Elements lab (recommend sending via trackable mail or courier).
  4. Receive your results — turnaround is 2–4 weeks. Your 8-page report is emailed as a PDF (or accessed via client portal if you selected the consult option). If you’d also like a printed copy mailed via USPS First Class, request it in the “Additional Information” box at checkout.
